What is a cookie banner?
A cookie banner is the window a website uses to inform visitors about cookies and tracking and to obtain their consent. Depending on the case, analytics and advertising services such as Google Analytics may only start after consent. Aiara loads services from Tag management only then, passes the choice on to Google and logs it as proof.
What happens in the background
The visible banner is only one part. Aiara does this work on every visit.
- Signals to Google
- By default, the signals for advertising, analytics and personalisation are set to “denied” before a choice is made. After consent, the banner releases only the selected categories.
- Valid for one year
- The choice is stored in the browser and is valid for 365 days. After that, the banner asks again.
- Withdraw at any time
- A small button at the edge of the screen reopens the settings. If you wish, you can also add your own link to the footer.
- Proof in the log
- Every consent, refusal and withdrawal is recorded in the log with a timestamp. The IP address is masked in the process.
- Only on your domain
- Banner and settings only work on the domain you set them up for. If someone copies your code, the banner stays silent there.

The scanner visits your website, detects the cookies set and the services embedded, and assigns them to four categories, from necessary to marketing.

In the designer you choose layout, colours, button shape, animation and texts. The preview shows every change before it goes live.

External content only after consent
The banner shows videos and maps from YouTube, Vimeo, Google Maps and around twenty other services as placeholders until consent is given.

Do I need a cookie banner in Switzerland?
That depends on the services on your website. If you analyse visitor behaviour or pass data on to advertising networks, consent may be required depending on the case, and for visitors from the EU it is generally required under the GDPR. Does the banner work with WordPress, Shopify or Wix?
Yes. There are plugins for WordPress, Joomla, TYPO3 and Craft CMS, an integration for Shopify and an app for Wix. Any other website embeds the banner with one line of code in the head section.
Does Aiara support Google Consent Mode v2?
Yes, in every plan. By default, the banner sets the signals for advertising, analytics and personalisation to “denied” before a choice is made and then passes the decision on to Google with all Consent Mode v2 signals. Advanced settings and Microsoft's consent mode are part of Pro.
Which languages does the banner appear in?
In German, French, Italian, English and Portuguese. The banner follows the language of your site, and you can also set a fixed language. You adjust the texts in the designer.
Does Aiara block scripts automatically?
The banner automatically replaces embedded content from around twenty well-known services such as YouTube, Vimeo and Google Maps with a placeholder. You add analytics and advertising scripts through the tag management in the dashboard, and Aiara then loads them only after consent. You can also mark existing scripts with their category.
How long is consent valid?
The choice remains stored in the browser for one year, after which the banner asks again. Visitors can change or withdraw their decision at any time using the button at the edge of the screen.
Can I adapt the design to my brand?
Yes. You can adjust colours, button shape, animation and texts in every plan. Pro adds five further layouts, your logo and a cookie wall that only reveals the content once a choice has been made.
How much does the cookie banner cost?
The banner is included in every plan, together with the privacy policy, imprint (legal notice) and scanner. Basic costs CHF 120 per year and domain, Pro CHF 240, both excluding VAT. There is no limit on page views.
