What is an imprint?
An imprint (legal notice) states who is behind a website: company or name, address and a way to make contact by email. In Switzerland, the Federal Act on Unfair Competition (UCA) requires this information from anyone offering goods, works or services online. Aiara creates the imprint from your company details.
The legal basis
Art. 3 para. 1 let. s UCA requires anyone offering goods, works or services in electronic commerce to provide clear and complete information about their identity and contact address, including email. If your offering specifically targets customers in Germany or Austria, local rules may require further information, such as the registry court.
How your imprint is created
- 1
Enter your details
In the questionnaire, enter your company name, legal form, address, telephone, email and business identification number (UID number). Add a data protection advisor if you have one.
- 2
Your imprint is created
Aiara compiles the details in four languages and adds a disclaimer covering content, links and copyright.
- 3
Embed
Link to the hosted page, embed the imprint on your own page with a snippet, or copy the HTML.
- 4
Keep it up to date
If your address changes, update it in the questionnaire and publish the imprint again. With a snippet or hosted page, your website picks up the new version automatically.

Frequently asked questions
Is an imprint mandatory in Switzerland?
Yes, for anyone offering goods, works or services online. Art. 3 para. 1 let. s UCA requires clear information on identity and contact address, including email. Even without an online shop, an imprint builds trust and belongs on every business website.
What belongs in an imprint?
Company or name, legal form, full address and an email address. Telephone and the UID number are recommended. Aiara adds a reference to the persons authorised to represent the company and a disclaimer.
Do private individuals and associations need an imprint?
A purely private website without an offering does not fall under Art. 3 UCA. If an association offers memberships, courses or a shop online, however, the information is advisable and often required. When in doubt, an imprint does no harm.
Does the UID number have to be in the imprint?
The UCA does not mention it explicitly. Anyone who has a business identification number usually states it, because it identifies the company unambiguously. Aiara includes it if you enter it in the questionnaire.
Where does the imprint have to appear?
It must be easy to find. An “Imprint” link in the footer of every page is common, often next to the link to the privacy policy.
What applies to visitors from Germany or Austria?
If your offering specifically targets customers in the EU, local rules may require further information, in Germany for example the registry court and the names of the persons authorised to represent the company. In that case, check the requirements of the target country.
How much does the imprint generator cost?
The imprint is included in every plan, together with the cookie banner, privacy policy and scanner. Basic costs CHF 120 per year and domain, excluding VAT.
