What does a privacy policy generator do?
A privacy policy generator creates a privacy policy from the information you provide. It describes which personal data your website processes, for what purpose and to whom it is disclosed. Aiara combines a questionnaire with a scan of your website. The templates have been reviewed by two law firms in Switzerland and Germany that specialise in data protection.
What your privacy policy contains
Which sections appear depends on your answers. These are typical for a company website:
- Controller and contact details
- Data protection advisor or officer and EU representative, if applicable
- Provision of the website and server logs
- Contact form, newsletter and user accounts
- Analytics and advertising services such as Google Analytics, Google Ads or Meta Pixel
- Embedded content such as YouTube, Vimeo, Google Maps and Google Fonts
- Cookies with overview and retention period
- Disclosure to third parties
- Data security
- Retention period and your rights as a data subject
How your privacy policy is created
- 1
Scan your website
The scanner records cookies and embedded services such as Google Analytics, YouTube or Google Maps. The generator will not start without a completed scan, so that no service is missing.
- 2
Fill in the questionnaire
In eight steps, nine with an online shop, you answer questions about topics such as your contact form, newsletter, customer account or payment. Each answer switches on the matching text modules.
- 3
Review and adjust
Read through the text at your leisure and add your own paragraphs if needed. Every published version is kept in the version history.
- 4
Embed
Link to the hosted page, embed the text on your own page with a snippet, or copy the HTML into your system.

Frequently asked questions
Does every website need a privacy policy?
In practice, yes. As soon as a website processes personal data, for example through server logs, a contact form, cookies or embedded services, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection requires that the data subjects be informed (Art. 19 FADP). This applies to almost every website. For visitors from the EU, the GDPR also applies.
What must a privacy policy in Switzerland contain?
Under Art. 19 FADP, at least the identity and contact details of the controller, the purpose of processing and, where applicable, the recipients. If data is transferred abroad, the country and the safeguards must be included. Aiara adds sections on cookies, embedded services, retention periods and the rights of data subjects.
Is a free template enough?
A template is a start, but it does not know your website. If a service or cookie you use is missing, the information is incomplete. Aiara takes the services from the scan and adapts the sections to your answers.
Does the privacy policy also cover the GDPR?
With Pro, yes. Basic covers the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection. Pro adds the additional information required by the GDPR as well as sections for visitors from the USA, Brazil and South Africa.
Where does the privacy policy have to appear on the website?
It must be easy to reach from every page. A “Privacy” link in the footer is common. For this, Aiara provides a hosted page, a snippet for your own page or the text to copy.
What happens when I add new services?
Start a new scan or wait for the next scheduled one. The cookie table picks up the new cookies automatically. For new functions such as a newsletter, update the questionnaire so that the matching section appears.
Does the generator replace legal advice?
For a typical SME website, the generator covers the necessary information. If you process sensitive personal data such as health data or have unusual processes, we also recommend advice from a specialist.
How much does the privacy policy generator cost?
It is included in every plan, together with the cookie banner, imprint (legal notice) and scanner. Basic costs CHF 120 per year and domain, Pro CHF 240, both excluding VAT.
